News from the Dominican
Republic - Friday, February 8, 2008
We've
come to the last day of the work week again. It's hard to believe
that this is my third year here in the DR. For some guys it's 2,
4, or 5 times that they've been down. We're already looking
forward to next year.
The crew was able to finish up all the projects that we had planned
this week, plus a few. Gene ran the speaker wire for the sound
system today and cleaned up a few odds and ends on the electrical work.
Ad, Joe, and Darrel build some shelving in the basement for
storage. Ad made a nice box for Holly to hold music placards that
they use to teach worship songs.
Fred and Gene build a platform in the back corner of the church to hold
the sound equipment as they get it. This has a desk-top so the
sound guy can sit and work.
The crew also got in their annual coffee shopping venture. I
think the final purchase was about 150 pounds! Richie said that
this is his favorite part of the trip each year because he can sit back
and listen to what all the Dominicans are saying as they watch a bunch
of big Americans clear the coffee shelves in the supermarket!
We always finish the week with a victory celebration at Chime Jose'.
For those of you who may not know, this is a rotisserie chicken
establishment that serves the best in the world. The count for
the night was 7 whole birds for 7 people. We were very
embarrassed at how much Holly ate, but we love her anyway.
Thank you all for your prayers this week. We're all healthy and
safe. Even though we love our time down here with the Vallettes,
by the end of a week, we're ready to see our families again.
I'll make a few updates and tweaks to the web site as we gather the
pictures together from everyone after we get back. Please check
back.
