Gene
Greiner ("me" or "I" for future reference), Joe Stiles, and Darrel Neff
made it to Santiago, DR all in one piece today. The ride to
Newark, NJ airport was uneventful but when we got the the airport there
were huge lines fore check-in and security. But while we were in
the check-in line, a man came up to us and opened the gait and brought
us over to a new counter with no line! Then there was a huge line
for security and a woman came over and opened the gate again for us and
took us through the employee entrance. God certainly moved us
through without any hassle. We did have to sit in the plane for a
1 hour delay. First, there was an electrical malfunction and they
had to go get parts. Then the plane was too heavy and they had to
wait until someone volunteered to get off and wait until tomorrow.
Holly picked us up at the airport and we met Rich, Ad, and Fred back at
their house for lunch. We changed clothes and went over to the
church at Los Girasoles. Joe and Darrel started in on painting
and Fred & I worked on electrical.
The agenda for the week looks like a split between both churches, La
Yaguita and Los Girasoles. At Los Girasoles we can paint, pour
concrete for some stairs and work on electrical. The electrical
codes are, shall we say, less than stringent. Fred and I will
have our work cut out for us.
It was a busy day so we didn't have time for many pictures. but we will
take more in the days to come and get them posted. I also posted
a video below of the Vallettes home where we are staying. It's a
little dark so I'll try to take another one on a brighter day.
The rain was stopping when we landed and it is now warm and sunny.
The team of Fred and Gene just beat team Stiles-Boyer in dominoes
but then the combination of Richie and Darrel beat us all. (I
think it has something to do with "the missionary" carrying Darrel.)
Please pray that God supplies material. The money available to
buy the materials is thin and may not be enough to get all that we want
or could accomplish. Our God owns the "cattle on a thousand
hills" so I know He will provide.
Please pray for good weather and our time of worship and fellowship with the local church tomorrow.
Check back each day for
updates!
