News from the Dominican
Republic - Tuesday, February 5, 2008
The
crew is healthy and certainly happy this morning. Fred and Darrel
started the morning by patching up a big hole in Rich's bumper.
It was actually so loud that it set off car alarms when you went
by! They used an old Eagles vanity plate and wrapped it around
and secured it with wire. It worked - Dominican style! Joe
said that the Eagles fans were used to that kind of treatment.
After breakfast, the crew split up. Fred and I went to Los
Girasoles to replace the main electrical feed into the building.
You can't disconnect the power so we were going to do it hot.
God provided and the power was out for the whole time! The
problem was that we never knew when it would come back on and it
started to rain! We got the whole project finished. The
church windows were delivered and were being installed when we left.
Richie picked Fred and I up and we went to join the rest of the crew at
La Yaguita. Pastor Ramone is trying to get set up as a Compassion
International project as an outreach to the community. He needed
a security fence and second bathroom added. The was the project
for today and probably tomorrow. You can see the pictures below.
Ramone and some men from the church/community helped us.
It was a hot day today and we got a few sunburns. Holly brought
us lunch and there was a bit of laughing as well as hard as it is for
you to believe. We will also get the water tower project finished
before we leave. We ended the day with dinner at Ben and Michelle
Hoffman's and a few hours of dominoes.
Pray that the weather stays nice and that we keep working injury-free.
The next update may not be until Thursday as we're going to the Carri
bean World Series tomorrow night for a game and it will get late.
Remember that fellowship with "the missionary" is an important
part of our efforts. It's good for him to have some guys to just
hang out with and laugh. I think we can accommodate him.
You will probably get a kick out of the video below. I went with
Rich to the lumber yard today to pick up the pipes for the fence.
The view you will see is us riding in his jeep up the back way to
La Yaguita. It's funny from the standpoint of the bouncing but
sad when you see the poverty. Please pray for this community as
Pastor Ramone and others seek to minister there and share the Gospel.
