Hello
again from the sunny DR! It was another good day here for the
most part. We started the day at La Yaguita and Pastor Ramone's
church building. They are applying to be a project church for
Compassion International and need a new bathroom and security fence to
become approved. We finished both projects and also the water
tower project for Pastor Ramone's house. They now have a good
supply of water. He told us that they had been bathing in buckets
for 4 months! But tonight they'll take long and satisfying
showers.
We were done by mid-afternoon and loaded up our stuff to head back to
the other church building at Los Girasoles. Fred and I worked on
electrical again. Ad, Joe, and Darrel poured three more outside
stairs.
We had an interesting experience this week. We couldn't find the
24VDC electric drill set which had been used as recently as Saturday.
There is a guard that the church hires to watch things and it
turns out that he want back to drugs and stole the drill and an
electric guitar from the church to pawn them. Apparently he sold
the $300 drill for $21 bucks. With the help of the guy's father,
Richie was able to locate the items in the pawn shop and get them back.
Fred was feeling pretty sick today. He came home and went to bed
at 5pm after taking some Cipro antibiotic. After a 13 hour sleep,
he is feeling much better.
It's the Carri bean World Series in Santiago this year. Rich, the
Crew, and a few guys from the church went to a game last night.
I'm feeling a little sports overload but we had a good time.
They take their baseball very seriously in the DR. When you
watch the video below, you'll see a bit of our drive from the ball
field to the Vallettes. In the DR, it's OK to go into opposing
traffic when you're in a hurry or things are congested. It's also
OK to run red lights after 10:30 PM!
Please pray for continued health for the group. The weather has
been good to us and tomorrow we should finish all the jobs we had
planned. We can then get some extras completed.
